Activities

Band Program

  • Instruction on band instruments is provided for interested students in grades 5 and 6. Classes meet once a week for a 45 minute period during the school day with itinerant instrumental music teachers. Classes are offered for both beginning and experienced band students. Advanced band students also have the opportunity to perform in the district solo/ensemble festival and participate in Area Band.

Chorus

  • As part of the Elective Program, fifth and sixth-grade students have the opportunity to participate in the Flint Hill Chorus with both our full-time and part-time music teachers. Students meet during school hours on Monday afternoons and rehearse for the Winter and Spring concerts. Chorus students also have the opportunity to audition and perform with the Madison Pyramid Singers. Eight sixth grade students are selected to represent our school by participating in the All-County Chorus program annually.

Safety Patrols

  • Safety Patrols play a vital role in daily life at Flint Hill by helping students arrive safely in the morning and depart safely each afternoon. Over fifty 5th and 6th grade students are selected by our Patrol Sponsors. Patrols are assigned to positions within and outside of the school building and on school buses.  They also assist kindergartners to and from class each day, raise and lower the flags, and make the afternoon bus announcements.

The SACC program is designed to develop independent thinking, creative expression, and cooperative relationships among children. Strings Program

  • All 4th, 5th and 6th graders are invited to learn to play a string instrument at Flint Hill.  Students are given information about the four instruments, violin, viola, cello and bass, in June and may select one instrument for the upcoming school year. This presentation will include rising 4th graders and current 4th graders. Beginners will learn proper instrument position and note reading, and how to produce a good sound. Advanced 5th and 6th graders will perform string orchestra music from a variety of styles and time periods.  These advanced students also have the opportunity to join Fairfax Area Orchestra and participate in Solo and Ensemble Festival.
