Advanced Academic Program (AAP)

The Advanced Academic Program (AAP) at Flint Hill provides a continuum of services for all students in grades K-6. Classroom teachers and the Advanced Academic Resource teacher collaborate to provide academic challenges through critical and creative thinking skills, differentiation in areas of student strength, and specific opportunities to work with advanced curriculum and strategies 

Balanced Literacy Program

Flint Hill’s Balanced Literacy Program uses an integrated approach to teaching language arts.  Balanced literacy programs are designed to help students become effective readers and writers. Children read and write each day in whole group, small group, and independent settings. 

Speech and Language Program

Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) provide services to students who demonstrate a communication impairment, such as impaired articulation, stuttering, voice disorders, and language impairments that adversely affect the students’ educational performance.

Special Education Program

Flint Hill is committed to providing special education students with opportunities along a continuum of services that offer access to and participation in the activities of the school and community environments as appropriate to the age and educational needs of the student. 

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Program 

The English for Speakers of Other Languages program provides the academic foundation and English literacy that ESOL students need to meet the challenges of the real world. The mission of ESOL Services is to develop the English proficiency of students, enhance their academic achievement, and support school staff members as they deliver quality instruction.

FLES Program

The Foreign Language in the Elementary School program is an approach to language learning that allows students to develop basic communicative skills in a language while reinforcing and enriching content in other disciplines.

Band, Chorus and Strings

Instruction on band instruments is provided for interested students in grades 5 and 6.  As part of the Elective Program, fifth and sixth-grade students have the opportunity to participate in the Flint Hill Chorus with both our full-time and part-time music teachers.  All 4th, 5th and 6th graders are also invited to learn to play a string instrument at Flint Hill.  

School Counseling Services

As elementary school counselors, their primary objective is to assist students in reaching their potential to become effective learners. Their goal is to complement the learning environment in the classroom by using a child-centered, preventative, and developmental approach.

Counseling will be conducted with students individually and in small groups, when requested by parents and teachers and determined appropriate. This service is short-term, voluntary, and confidential. Parent notification is given to any extended individual or group counseling. There will also be monthly classroom guidance lessons focusing on student success.

Our school counseling team consists of our school counselors, school social worker, and school psychologist.

School Age Child Care (SACC)

School Age Child Care (SACC) is a Fairfax County Office for Children program located in FCPS elementary schools for Kindergarten through 6th-grade children whose parents are working, attending school, or disabled. SACC offers these programs at Flint Hill: Before School (7:15 a.m. until school begins), and After School (end of school day until 6:15 p.m).

Safety Patrols

Safety Patrols play a vital role in daily life at Flint Hill by helping students arrive safely in the morning and depart safely each afternoon. Over fifty 5th and 6th grade students are selected by our Patrol Sponsors. Patrols are assigned to positions within and outside of the school building and on school buses.
